Country Furniture became popular with the hugely popular Shabby Chic concept, designers and homeowners alike draped sofas with sheets and decorated dressers with ornaments whimsically recreating romantic rooms of times gone by. Dining chair options are considerable, ranging from Antique hand studded leather to the finer details of the classic Parisian Abre style canvas back French country chairs. Ornamentation is typically grand with complementary artwork ranging from the classical French Impressionists to Cubism.
Living areas should be anchored by strong heavy elements, distressed Avignon style wall cabinets, French country coffee tables and antique leather club sofas and chairs, think Gentleman's private club, huge cigars and fine Cognac, soft lighting provided by oversized rustic chandeliers. During a recent trip to Macon France we picked up a huge wine barrel chandelier which is actually made from aged wine barrel staves and it has to be quintessential light fixture of the French country interior that would become the focus of any living room project.
